Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

As the only freestanding pediatric healthcare system in Georgia, prioritizing the well-being of children is paramount at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. JE Dunn Construction approaches our work on Children’s North Druid Hills campus with the precision of a surgeon and the heart of a parent to ensure each aspect of construction aligns with the safety and comfort of Children’s patients.

A relationship dating back two decades, JE Dunn first worked with Children’s to renovate the Medical Office Building at Scottish Rite Hospital. Since then, JE Dunn has supported Children’s ongoing growth, from master planning to expansions to new buildings.

In 2017, JE Dunn started work on Children’s Support Center, a new corporate campus that replaced dated office buildings that had previously housed Children’s corporate support staff. The project paved the way for the new Arthur M. Blank Hospital at the North Druid Hills campus that will provide more than 2 million square feet of new healthcare space.

The Support Center includes two 8-story office buildings totaling over 600,000 square feet and includes employee office space, training facilities, a full-service eatery, employee fitness center, and employee clinic. The office buildings are connected to a 7-level, 2,400-space parking garage by an elevated, 300-foot-long pedestrian bridge. As part of our work on the Support Center, JE Dunn also oversaw improvements to campus traffic flow, including adding traffic signals at the adjacent NE Expressway underpass and a vehicular bridge over a creek running through the site.

JE Dunn collaborated on the hospital portion of the campus with another general contractor, which oversees the hospital tower’s construction. Our work includes the Central Utility Plant that serves a variety of campus buildings; the South Tower, which includes clinical office space and ancillary support; two large parking decks; and final site work, which consists of intricate hardscapes and landscapes. JE Dunn’s expertise is helping shape a campus that will redefine pediatric healthcare in Georgia.

“A good number of the patient care areas have a view of the outdoor space and gardens, which is a big piece of the work we’re doing on the campus,” said Brad Stolz, project director for JE Dunn Construction. “It all enhances an already nurturing environment to help promote healing and comfort for the children here.”

This visionary project is not just about buildings; it’s about expanding Children’s capacity to serve. Children’s currently manages more than 1.1 million patient visits and treats more than 450,000 Georgia children annually. With this new campus, that number is expected to increase significantly. Together we’re laying the foundation to make kids better today and healthier tomorrow. The new hospital is one of the largest healthcare developments in the history of the state of Georgia and will welcome its first patients in September 2024.
