New York Times Shines Spotlight on Two JE Dunn Projects

For 100 years and counting, JE Dunn Construction has known about a great metropolitan area in the heart of the Midwest. The company was founded and remains headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. A century after John Ernest Dunn started the construction company, many more people around the world could discover the many hidden gems in our middle-of-the-map home after the New York Times named Kansas City No. 21 on its list of 52 Places to Go in 2024. The piece features two structures proudly built by JE Dunn: CPKC Stadium and The Rabbit hOle.

This spring, Kansas City’s professional women’s soccer team, Kansas City Current, will open its season in CPKC Stadium — the first stadium designed and created exclusively for women’s soccer worldwide. Through a joint venture with fellow contractor Monarch Build, a women-owned construction firm, our team has led the operation to build the new stadium located in the Berkley Riverfront area.

“Our employees who are working on this project don’t come to just a job, but they come to make history building the first women’s sports professional stadium in the world,” said JE Dunn Vice President Scott Sherry. “This year, they are going to bring their kids, their family, and their friends to a match, and they’re going to say, ‘This is what I’ve been doing for the last 14 months.’ And you can’t take more pride than that.”

In another milestone project, JE Dunn played a key role in the forthcoming opening of The Rabbit hOle in North Kansas City. The immersive, multi-sensory, narrative landscape filled with discoverable environments will be the first museum of its kind in the U.S. The Rabbit hOle will deliver innovative programming for children and adults alike.

“There is nothing like The Rabbit hOle around,” said JE Dunn Vice President, Project Solutions Chris Catron. “It will be the world’s only place where you can physically walk through your favorite children’s story. The artistry, creativity, and the amount of time involved in bringing this vision to life is truly impressive. It will be such a great place for kids to explore, and I can’t wait to bring my own children to see it.”

“From our construction personnel to our administrative staff and everyone in between, all of us at JE Dunn take great pride in the work we do,” said JE Dunn President and CEO Gordon Lansford. “For these projects to be highlighted on a national — and even global — scale is a testament to the dedication our people have for transforming the communities we serve. We’ve known for a long time how much Kansas City has to offer, and I hope this feature on the incredible spaces we were lucky enough to help create enlightens more people about our hometown.”
