Reaching New Heights: Sixth and Guadalupe Project

Towering above the skyline of Austin, Texas, with 66 stories and 2.1 million square feet, the Sixth and Guadalupe building, located at the intersection of two of the city’s most famous streets, is the tallest in Austin to date and the tallest in JE Dunn history.

The Gensler design for Sixth and Guadalupe stacked 15 levels of parking, 19 levels containing 655,000 sq ft of office space, topped by 33 levels of with 630,000 ft of residential units, on an entire city block in one of downtown Austin’s most popular neighborhoods. The project also includes 10,000 square feet of street-level retail. In addition, it boasts an elevated outdoor amenity space, offering views of the Texas Capitol building and Lady Bird Lake.

JE Dunn added an Exterior Perimeter Safety (EPS) system around the entire building perimeter to provide utmost protection to activities on the active upper levels of the structure.

Construction on Sixth and Guadalupe began in 2019, overcoming labor shortages, delays due to the global pandemic and increasing costs from market inflation.

Two and a half years into construction, on November 22, 2022, JE Dunn held a topping out ceremony, completing the 865-foot building’s growth to its final height, making the building the fifth tallest in the state of Texas.

“There are a lot of firsts with this project – it’s the tallest for Austin, it’s the tallest JE Dunn has ever built, and this entire team is really pioneering this level of design and construction,” said Forrest Wilson, Vice President and Project Executive on the project. “And this project is done by a team that is on the ground with hundreds of skilled workers every day. To have such an engaged and dedicated team on a project that was more than four years of construction is phenomenal.”

Sixth and Guadalupe will be completed later this year.
